A true long weekend adventure—focused on navigation, strategy, and time on the track.
OVERVIEW
Set in and around the Little Desert region, the Wimmera event delivers a back-to-basics Amazing Race experience.
With open terrain and a strong focus on navigation, it’s an event that rewards planning, decision-making, and getting out on the course.
This is the original style of Amazing Race—simple in structure, but challenging in execution.
THE EXPERIENCE
Each day, teams head out to explore the course—using maps, GPS coordinates, and clues to locate checkpoints and maximise their score.
The terrain is open and forgiving, allowing teams to focus on route choice, efficiency, and strategy rather than technical driving.
It’s a pure navigation challenge, where time on the track is what counts.
CAMP & FACILITIES
Base camp is set in the bush, with plenty of space for caravans, campers, and swags.
Essential facilities are provided onsite, with additional amenities just minutes away in the nearby town of Goroke.
-
24-hour fuel available
-
Takeaway food options nearby
-
Caravan park access for water and showers
This setup gives you the flexibility to run your weekend your way—without being locked into a structured camp environment.
MORNINGS
Mornings are simple and efficient.
Tea and coffee are available before briefing so you can get straight into the course and make the most of your day.
FAMILY FRIENDLY
The Amazing Race Wimmera is designed to be enjoyed by the whole family.
Younger participants can get involved with their own simplified course notes, follow along with the adventure, and even compete for their own trophies.
Evenings at camp include activities for younger participants, creating a relaxed and welcoming environment for all ages.
With the Easter long weekend setting, the event also includes a special Easter Bunny visit on Sunday—making it a memorable experience for younger adventurers.
The weekend concludes with a full camp gathering, including a buffet dinner and presentation night where results are revealed and trophies are awarded.
VEHICLE REQUIREMENTS
The Wimmera event is well suited to standard 4WD vehicles.
A capable 4WD with good quality tyres is all that’s required to comfortably complete the course.
The terrain is generally open and forgiving, making it an ideal event for both new and experienced teams.
TIMING
Run across the Easter long weekend (Friday to Sunday), this event is designed as a true getaway.
With the distance from Melbourne, most teams choose to arrive Thursday evening, settle into camp, and be ready for a full first day on Friday.
With Easter Monday providing a relaxed travel day home, it creates a complete long weekend experience without the rush.
